In South Africa, excavator selection depends primarily on the digging depth, bucket capacity and transport logistics required for the project. Mini excavators (1—5 tonne) are transported on a small trailer, access residential sites through standard gates and dig typical service trenches to 2—3 m depth. Medium excavators (8—20 tonne) are the standard choice for bulk earthworks, dam walls, road cuttings and commercial foundations.
